Is Self-Love Selfish?
Absolutely not! 100% a hell no. It is actually imperative to your mental health and transformational for your wellbeing. It is the miracle cure.
Self-love needs to be a priority. It sets the tone for all other relationships in your life. When you love you, you can fully give love to others with all of your heart. You can also fully receive love from others. Instead of mentally beating yourself up for every little thing, self-love teaches us to be kind and compassionate to ourselves. We have over 60,000 thoughts running around in our brains every day. Have you ever stopped to think about what those thoughts are saying to you about you? Are they loving, supportive and compassionate? Or are they negative, self-critical and full of stress? If you are mentally abusing yourself it shows up in all areas of your life. This could look like staying in toxic relationships, settling for less, not having your own back when the going gets tough, unfulfilling sex life, low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, feelings of unworthiness, overdrinking to not feel, emotional eating and the list goes on and on.
Self-Love is putting yourself first ALWAYS. You should always be #1 on your to do list. When you make your mind, body and soul a priority it affects every other relationship you have in your life. You show up authentically and wholeheartedly. You are an example of what is possible for others especially all the special loved ones in your life. You teach your kids how to love themselves so they don’t settle in a life that does not recognize their value. You don’t settle in a life that does not recognize your value. Self-love is an inside job. Its not something your lover, partner, family or friends can do for you. It is something that you need to do for you. It is essential and transformational. It simply sets the tone for a purposeful life.
True love starts with you. It’s the relationship YOU have with yourself that propels all the other relationships in your life. Believing in yourself, following your intuition and taking risks is the secret sauce in life. It’s doing life intentionally and on purpose vs waking up everyday letting life just unfold, running around like a crazy human, taking care of everyone else, not taking care of yourself and collapsing at the end of the day of overwhelm, exhaustion and stress. You have one life to live right now. How about making it big and beautiful. You get to choose. You get to define what that looks like. You can always begin again and start fresh. Just because you have always done something does not mean you have to continue to do it. You do you. It all starts with changing the way you think. One purposeful thought at a time.
10 Essential Self Love Tips
1. 10-minute daily exercise. Buy yourself a beautiful journal and pen for writing. Start your day with a thought download. Empty out that beautiful brain with all the thoughts that are running around there. No one else will see this. Just unload what is there, all the good, the struggles, etc. This will change all the time. Notice what you are telling yourself. Are you speaking to yourself positively? Beating yourself up for something in the past? Not forgiving yourself for being perfectly imperfect?

2. Exercise. Move your body every day. I love a Hot Power Vinyasa Yoga Class or Orange Theory. Do whatever makes you feel good. Get out in nature. Hike the mountains. Soak up some sunshine. The body is a mirror of our inner thoughts and beliefs.
3. Eat nourishing foods. Plan your meals ahead of time. Local, organic and what is in season is a great place to start. Get to know your local farmers markets.
4. Buy yourself beautiful flowers. I love Orchids or freshly cut spring flowers from the farmer’s market. I always have them in my home. I don’t wait for someone to give me flowers. I give them to myself.
5. Drink lots of water. Drink your herbs. Hot teas in the winter and fun herb infused water in the summer. I love fresh mint or cucumber water.
6. Read + study nourishing books for the mind + soul. Do books don’t just read them. Be really aware of what you are taking in from the outside world via social media, the news, etc. Protect your consciousness
7. Clean out the people in your life that do not serve. If you have anyone hanging around that brings you down, doesn’t believe in you… remove them from your inner circle. Sometimes people will always be there because they are family but you get to choose how much time you spend with them and how you show up for yourself when you do.
8. Listen to your intuition. That whisper, the soft nudge inside is your guiding light. It reveals to you what you need to know. It is your soul. You can trust it.
9. Learn to think in positive affirmations. Whatever thought you put your attention to grows. Here is a new affirmation to implement – I approve of myself and I love myself. Write this on your bathroom mirror with red lip stick or a black sharpie. Say it out loud and write it numerous times a day. What you believe you become.
10. Invest in a life coach. All great athletes have coaches and all humans should have coaches too. A life coach will help up level your life. When you work towards something new or want to change something that is not working you are up leveling. Together we work on the future you want to create vs being past focused.
Life can be very simple. What we give out we get back. The universe supports every thought we choose to think and believe. Your point of power is always in the present moment. Loving yourself is a miracle cure. It is the secret sauce in life.
Make yourself a priority. You have to. You have to take care of you so you can take care of everyone else.
